The Macallan estate, constructed in 1700, is nestled in a picturesque region of natural beauty. One of the notable features of the distillery is the use of the smallest spirit stills on Speyside, which contribute to the distinctive richness and fruitiness of the distillery’s “new make” spirit. Interestingly, these stills are so renowned that they have been featured on the back of a Bank of Scotland banknote. The Macallan places great emphasis on sourcing, building, and caring for its casks, dedicating more time to this process than any other distillery. The use of Spanish sherry seasoned oak casks imbues the whisky with flavors of chocolate, dried fruits, and spices, while American sherry seasoned oak casks provide notes of sweet citrus, light spice, vanilla, and light oak. The use of American bourbon seasoned oak barrels results in a profile with sweet citrus, coconut, and oak flavors. The Macallan 18 Year Old Sherry Oak Single Malt, matured in seasoned Spanish sherry oak casks, offers a delectable combination of vanilla, cinnamon, dried fruit, and woody notes in both flavor and aroma. Undoubtedly, this expression represents an iconic Macallan whisky.
